About Kimberly Miguel Mullen, M.A.

Classically trained folkloric dance artist and cultural ethnologist Kimberly Miguel Mullen contributes to a legacy of performers from the Caribbean, Cuba and Brazil. Her dance practice is rooted in ritual dance expressions from AfroCaribbean/AfroBrazilian religious systems of deities called the Orichas/Orixas. Through her online virtual dance platform and through her ongoing innovative performances, in-depth workshops, and retreats, Mullen expands the reach of African diasporic forms.

“Pure Joy. Mullen doesn’t stop smiling and encouraging the group with every step, making sure everyone is having a blast. We finished the class completely soaked but bursting with energy.”

OMI TUTU: COOL WATERS is an Award Winning multi-media dance performance by Dance Artist & Cultural Ethnologist, Kimberly Miguel Mullen, M.A. in collaboration with Oscar Nominee Filmmaker, Craig Renaud. Omi Tutu honors the sacred waters & the divine feminine forces of the Yoruba Oricha tradition. Continuing Mullen's lifelong devotion and offering to the sacred waters, the artists invites the audience into a sacred healing space where water becomes a medium for memory, ritual and transformation.Rooted in over 30-years of Mullen’s research in AfroCaribbean & AfroBrazilian sacred dance, Omi Tutu pays homage to the "las dos aguas" or "the two waters:" Yemaya, the Oricha of the Sea & the divine universal mother & Ochun, the deity of the sweet, fresh waters of love & beauty. The performance features original field recordings from Mullen’s ethnographic research in Santiago de Cuba with the acclaimed musicians of Ballet Folklorico Cutumba. This performance is part of an AfroBrazilian Dance Workshop Residency co-hosted by Samba Do Mar Humboldt who is also presenting original work alongside Omi Tutu.
