San Francisco Carnaval Experience 

SF Carnaval Experience with Grupo Samba Rio

Join fellow Humboldt County Dancers as we parade the streets of the Mission District with Grupo Samba Rio for San Francisco Carnaval! Classes will be taught by Samba do Mar Humboldt's Artistic Director, Maria Vanderhorst, and will include the following:

  • ​Parade choreography

  • Samba no Pé drills to improve technique

  • Exercises to improve musicality and parade performance ​

Classes will be in Arcata on different days in order to give community members more opportunities to participate in this wonderful event.  

​

Rehearsals:

  • Tuesdays, April 2, 9 & 16, 7-8 PM, Trillium Dance Studios, 855 8th Street, Arcata

  • Thursdays, April 11 & 25, 5:30 - 7 PM, Redwood Raks Collective, 824 L Street, Arcata

  • Mondays, May 6 & 13, 7-8 PM, Trillium Dance Studios

  • Last Rehearsal in Humboldt, Thursday, May 23, 5:30 - 7 PM, Redwood Raks Collective

  • Final Rehearsal in the Oakland, Saturday, May 24, Time and Location TBA

Pricing:

Drop-In Price: $15
9-class Session Price: $90
Net proceeds from the Monday and Tuesday classes will be go to the Samba do Mar Humboldt Visiting Teacher Fund.

 

A Note on Choreography and Parading: Since we are guests of Grupo Samba Rio, all dancers will need to know the choreography well and follow the parading guidelines in order to parade in San Francisco Carnaval.
